1877: Member of the USA team at Creedmoor, USA.
Harper's Weekly, 10 July 1875
"Captain Leslie C. Bruce was born at Lexington, Kentucky, March
25, 1849, his father being Colonel S.D. Bruce, the well-known authority
on turf matters. In 1871 he came to this city and entered the office
of 'Turf, Field, and Farm' as business manager, becoming in 1873 joint
proprietor. While at home in Kentucky he was a member of the Lexington
Chaseurs, under command of his father. This was an independent company,
famous for their perfection of drill and marksmanship. When the competition
for the team of 1875 was announced Captain Bruce determined to win a
place upon it, and set to work in earnest. He succeeded in winning the
tenth place, and by the resignation of Mr. Jewell became one of the
nine."
