Rifles: Pedersoli David Minshall |

Davide Pedersoli & Co. manufacture rifles that may appeal to the long range muzzle loader. Primarily intended for the MLAIC 100m free rifle 'Whitworth' match, the 'Tryon Creedmoor' and 'Mortimer Whitworth' models are both target rifles that have potential for use out to 600 yards. As with the Spanish 'Creedmoor' rifle though, the weight of these may make their use with large charges uncomfortable. In addition, the target sights supplied will need replacing to cope with the elevations required at longer ranges. In 2002, Pedersoli introduced their 'Gibbs' rifle. This is a full match rifle with half stock and pistol grip, and named after the well known Bristol gunmaker, George Gibbs. Originally introduced in .40 calibre for the 100m market, Pedersoli quickly responded to demand and introduced a .45 calibre version. This rifle has gained a reputation of quality and accuracy, and 'out-of-the-box' is equipped for long range shooting. The 'Pedersoli Mortimer Whitworth' percussion rifle causes some confusion for the newcomer to long range shooting. I see this recommended from time to time for those seeking a reproduction of the hexagonally bored rifle as developed by Joseph Whitworth. The 'Whitworth Rifle' is recognised as an accurate long range riflee and was famously used by sharpshooters in the American Civil War. Davide Pedersoli & C. do not make a Whitworth rifle. The "Whitworth" tag of the Mortimer comes from the name of the competition the rifle is marketed to be used in. The Muzzle Loaders Associations International Committee (www.mlaic.org) name all their competitions and the 'Whitworth' match is for target rifles fired prone at 100m. Further information: |
