"T.S. Dakin is a Brigadier-General in the New York Militia, si
43 years old, weighs 220 pounds. He has seen service in the war, shoots
in the face-downward position, and nearly always hist the bull's-eye."
Harper's Weekly,
10 July 1875
"General T.S. Dakin was born in Orange County, New York, in 1831.
During the war he saw active service as captain with the Thirteenth
(Brooklyn) Regiment, which he joined as a private in 1849. In the arrangement
of the names on the team of 1874, accoring to scores made, General Dakin
was fourth man, with a total of 564 in a possible 800. On the day of
the International match he made the lowest score of the American side,
making 139 points. One of his mishaps was a bad bullet, which fell short
of the target. During the present season he has injured his scores by
using a new weapon of a new make instead of his tried rifle of last
year. As a consequence he has made several bad breaks. He takes great
pecautions in his shooting, practicing with much method and precision.
He shoots in a lying-down position."
